So if you are a lover of golf and a lover of movies then you will definitely agree that these movies deserve a spot in your movie collection.
Here are my leading 5 favorite golf movies from #5 to #1:
5.) Caddyshack II (1988)- This movie is the sequel to the 1980 smash hit Caddyshack. It stars Jackie Mason as Jack Hartounian, a self-created millionaire who builds low-income housing in alot more upscale neighborhoods. When his application to the country club Bushwood is denied, Jack buys up the majority stock from Bushwood from Ty Webb, played by Chevy Chase. This causes issues with Bushwoood President Chandler Young as he begins turning the country club into an amusement park. In order to persuade Jack from building any even more structures on the property, Chandler hires Captain Tom Everett, played by Dan Aykroyd, to "discourage" him from performing so. This sets the stage for 1 entertaining movie.
4.) Pleased Gilmore (1996)- Adam Sandler stars as Pleased Gilmore, an aspiring ice hockey player who discovers he has a knack at hitting golf balls wonderful distances. Right after his grandma's house is threatened with foreclosure for unpaid taxes, Pleased devises a strategy to hustle other golfers at the driving range to earn a little income. This draws the attention of Chubbs Peterson, played by Carl Weathers, who convinces Happy to try and join the PGA Tour in hopes of earning sufficient money to pay his grandma's tax debt. This sets the stage for one hilarious movie as he takes on his golf nemesis Shooter McGavin in one final tournament.
3.) Caddyshack (1980)- This movie is the "Animal Residence" of golf movies. There are so several jokes and gags in this movies you'll be laughing from begin to finish. The story revolves about the character of Danny Noonan as he works at Bushwood Country Club to earn cash for college. Danny believes that if he can get in on the beneficial side of Judge Smails, the country clubs co-founder, he will have a shot at the Caddy Scholarship but finds himself in hot water at times, such as being caught having sex with the Judge's niece in his bed. In the finish Danny finds himself in a two-on-two golf match against the Judge which he is able to win. Rodney Dangerfield, Chevy Chase, and Bill Murray lend their comedic talents to this funny movie.
2.) Tin Cup (1996)- Kevin Costner stars in this movie as Roy "Tin Cup" McAvoy, a former golf prodigy who nows runs his own driving range in West Texas. With the aid of Dr. Molly Griswold, a clinical psychologist, he is able to rebuild his self confidence and qualify for the U.S. Open. On the very first day, he shoots a horrible 83 but on the second day he is able to shoot an extraordinary 62. He is now in contention to win the tournament but his only flaw is on the 18th hole, where instead of laying it up and playing it secure, he goes for it and ends up in the pond each time. On the last round, he is on the 18th hole once once more and if he lays it up safe he will win the tourney, but as soon as once again he arrogance makes him go for it. After hitting 11 golf balls in the pond, his 12th ball clears the pond and goes into the hole and the crowd goes nuts. Don Johnson, Rene Russo, and Cheech Marin co-star.
1.) The Legend of Bagger Vance (2000)- This is my favorite golf movie and the only 1 on my list that is not a comedy. Robert Redford directed this movie about a promising golfer named Rannulph Junah, played by Matt Damon, who is asked to play in a 3-way golf exhibition match against two of the perfect in the globe. Just before the match, Junnah is approached by a mysterious drifter named Bagger Vance, who agrees to caddy for him and teach him to come to grips with his personal demons and play improved golf. While he begins poorly, he is able to acquire considerable ground by the second round. On the 18th hole of the final round, Bagger sees that Junnah has grown and matured as a golfer and he leaves as mysteriously as he appeared prior to the match is over. The trio finish up in a three-way tie. Will Smith stars as Bagger Vance and Charlize Theron also stars.
This concludes my list of preferred golf movies. I hope you enjoyed reading about these amazing movies mainly because I enjoyed writing about them. So next time you get a opportunity, pick oneself up a copy of one of these movies and I'm positive you will agree that these movies are the greatest choice to grace your movie shelf.
